The Orangutan Conservancy believes that no one project or group of people can hope to save orangutans from extinction. We support several different projects in the field — some of which are operated by BOS Indonesia and several which are independent projects. We closely monitor how money is spent, to ensure your donation goes as far as it can to help orangutans. Each project is operated by tremendously dedicated people who are making heroic efforts to save orangutans.

The Orangutan Conservancy members help us to support these projects in the field:

The Gunung Palung Orangutan Conservation Project in West Kalimantan
Despite its relatively small size, Gunung Palung and the surrounding areas harbor what is thought to be one of the most dense and viable remaining orangutan populations in Kalimantan, and therefore, the world.
The Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Rehabilitation Center in Central Kalimantan
During the devastating fires of 1997-98 hundreds of infant and juvenile orangutans were rescued from villages in Kalimantan on the Island of Borneo. It became clear that a rehabilitation center was needed in this region, and in 1999, Nyaru Menteng (operated by BOS Indonesia) opened its doors.
Mawas - BOSF: A New Habitat Protection Project
BOSF (the BOS Foundation headquartered in Indonesia) and the Indonesian government are establishing the framework for BOSF to serve as the new executing agency for the protection of Mawas, a new habitat protection area in Central Kalimantan.
Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (SOCP)
The primary goal of the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme SOCP is the conservation of the Sumatran orangutan, a species currently listed as ‘Critically Endangered’ by the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources).
